The couple sat at the table, quite silent. She was just enjoying his company and she hoped he was enjoying hers. After a few moments more, the woman decided to break the silence.
"My mother came to visit yesterday. It's too bad you couldn't come. I know how you love my mother, and she adores you." The man just looked back at her with sad eyes and still lips.
She reached out to grab his hand, but he pulled back just like he always did. This upset the woman greatly, but she never said anything for fear that he would leave. Just having his presence was satisfying for her.
